The fire protection system in shopping centres comprises a wide range of coordinated measures.

These may include

• the use of flame retardant materials
• the use of components with defined fire resistance (creation of fire compartments)
• guaranteed short escape routes
• and the installation of fire alarms, sprinklers and smoke and heat ventilation systems.

In most cases, a fire alarm system is used in combination with a sprinkler system for active fire protection. Local guidelines and building regulations must be complied with.
